This year’s workshops expand on last year’s successful summit on toxics reduction with two peer-to-peer sessions. The morning session will focus on farmers, growers, and foresters. The goal of this workshop is to help farmers protect water quality, improve farm yields, reduce health risks, and increase economic viability.

Presenters include:

  • Jessika Tantisook, Starvation Alley Cranberries
  • Cathy Fantz, Trillium Christmas Tree Farm
  • Brian Nakamura, Nakamura Orchards
  • Clair Klock, Klock Farm and Nursery
  • Kevin Scribner, Salmon-Safe
  • Bill Berry, Natural Recovery

The afternoon session will focus on reducing stormwater impacts, drawing on experiences from builders, developers, local governments, and others. Presenters include:

  • Matt Graves, Port of Vancouver USA
  • Jane Bacchieri, City of Portland Watershed Services
  • David Humber, Humber Design Group
  • Doug Warneke, Toyota Logistics Services
  • Gerdin Edlen (invited)

Participants will hear about tools and techniques and other voluntary efforts that are being used to reduce toxics, and discuss the challenges that keep us from reducing more. Workshop guests will also explore what toxic reduction activities the Estuary Partnership can help expand.

Also at the Summit, the Estuary Partnership will release its 2015 State of the Estuary Report, outlining progress and remaining challenges to restoring the health of the lower Columbia River and estuary.
