Join us on Saturday, February 15, 2014 as we join novice and expert birdwatchers across the country in the 17th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC)! Senior Conservationist and naturalist Clair Klock will lead the event at the District’s demonstration farm in Beavercreek, OR. We will do a 15-minute count every hour, on the hour, from 8:00 a.m. til noon on February 15, 2014, and all data collected will be submitted to the 2014 GBBC website.

The GBBC is led by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, with Canadian partner Bird Studies Canada and sponsorship from Wild Birds Unlimited. Scientists use data collected, along with observations from other citizen-science projects, such as the Christmas Bird Count, Project FeederWatch, and eBird, to get the “big picture” about what is happening to bird populations. The longer these data are collected, the more meaningful they become in helping scientists understand our feathered friends. To find out more, about the Great Backyard Bird Count, visit their website at https://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/whycount.html.

Participants are encouraged to dress warmly, wear boots, and bring a pair of binoculars. Everyone is welcome.

If you have questions about this event, please contact Lisa at 503-210-6002 or [email protected] This event is free to the public. We look forward to seeing you there!
