OktoberPest is a series of workshops designed to help improve knowledge about pest management. This year the focus will be on entomology for novices and reducing non-target effects of pest management practices. These workshops and information sessions provide a focused learning environment for pest management professionals. Classes are held Thursday mornings at the North Willamette Research and Extension Center, 15201 NE Miley Rd, Aurora, Oregon. Registration fee is $25/workshop. • Beginning Bugs [in Spanish]: Intro to Economic Entomology for Ornamental Plants

This session is an introductory course on ornamental entomology taught in Spanish. The participants will learn basic insect and mite anatomy, life cycles and ecology including chewing and sucking insects, incomplete and complete metamorphosis, common orders of arthropods and insects, and visual recognition of common insect and mite pests of ornamental plants in the Pacific Northwest as well as their associated damage. This class is designed for those professionals working with ornamental plants who have little or no prior training in entomology.
