The recent bee kill in Oregon and the resulting outcry has had national implications with serious effects for ornamental plant producers. Customers are demanding that nursery products not be treated with any neonicotinoid insecticide, and retail nurseries and big box stores have to make serious decisions about whether to purchase treated nursery products. Is it an overreaction or an abundance of caution? During this session we will discuss conventional, “soft” chemistry, and augmented biological alternatives to neonicotinoid insecticides for sucking insects, thrips, beetles, and other key pests.
