Sam’s passion for the outdoors was instilled in her at a young age, from going on camping trips with her family and spending time in the garden with her grandma.
She went to Humboldt State University where she studied Environmental Science and Management with a focus in Ecological Restoration and a minor in Botany. At Humboldt she worked in the herbarium, directed a branch of the Waste Reduction and Resource Awareness Program, and conducted an independent research project on the germination rates of sagebrush seeds that were exposed to drought conditions and the efficacy and efficiency of utilizing a photography app to count seeds for restoration.
Before coming to Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District, Sam worked as a botany aide for Sierra Pacific Industries in Northern California, and as a biological science technician (plants) for the BLM in the West Eugene Wetlands and in Yellowstone National Park.
In her free time Sam enjoys long-distance running, triathlon, volleyball, reading, crafting, and spending time outdoors.
