Monte Mattsson

Monte grew up exploring the swamps and forests of the Midwest before moving to Oregon in 2002. His love for nature led him to study biology, focusing on ecology and evolution. Over the years, he has worked in research, agriculture, vegetation management, and teaching.

In 2023, Monte joined Clackamas SWCD as a WeedWise Specialist, a role that combines his interests and supports his goal of spending more than half his life outdoors. He enjoys the challenge of managing invasive species in the Clackamas River Sub-basin and appreciates the unique role of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. He values their mission to protect and improve local habitats—whether in cities, farms, rural areas, or untouched natural spaces—by working with both private landowners and public partners.
