The ABI 185 PTO Manure Spreader can handle large amounts of manure.
Zach Menchini of Campfire Farms in Beavercreek, Oregon, is a fan of the Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District’s Equipment Rental Program. Menchini, who raises heritage breed hogs, chickens for meat and eggs, and meat ducks, generates a log of manure on his thirty acre farm.
Managing manure at Campfire Farms is a big job that requires the right tools and equipment. Fortunately, a large manure spreader is available from the District’s Equipment Rental Program. “It really sped up what is a very time-consuming task and it was very effective in evenly spreading the manure over a very large area,” said Menchini.

Menchini notes that “Manure is a valuable resource to spread on your fields, but you have to do it at the right time of the year. We pile it and turn it with our tractor and loader until it’s aged. It’s a mix of manure and bedding. By the time it’s broken down, it looks like soil, even the bedding is broken down and passes through the spreader with no problem.”
He observed that for small farms, not having to purchase a manure spreader that’s going to spend most of its life in the barn is a good choice. He stated that “The District’s pricing structure is reasonable for the short amount of time we use the equipment.”

Easy to Rent with Excellent Support from Staff
Menchini noted that “We found the whole renting process to be very straightforward. The District’s Equipment Rental Program is flexible, communication was clear, and expectations for how equipment should be used, maintained, cleaned, and returned were not difficult. Gus Liszka from the District’s rental program was available for any questions and was very accessible, even when I called while out in the field.”
