The Molalla River Watershed provides drinking water to more than 28,000 people in Molalla, Canby, and Colton.
The Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District is happy to announce some good news for landowners near Molalla and Canby. Our partners at the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) have awarded the District a grant to be distributed over the next five federal fiscal years. This grant money will be used to implement conservation practices on agricultural land near Canby and Molalla. This land is located within the Molalla National Water Quality Initiative area.
This funding helps pay for projects in the watershed that prevent soil, pesticides, nutrients, and other contaminants from reaching the river. The funds also pay to increase shade on the streams.
The goal of the grant it to improve water quality in the Molalla River Watershed as it is a “source” of drinking water for over 28,000 people. The December 2022 Molalla River Watershed Drinking Water Source Protection Plan for Canby Utility, City of Molalla, and Colton Water District here. This report was influential in securing the NRCS grant.

Which Conservation Practices Can be Implemented?

- removal of invasive weeds and replanting native trees along waterways
