On Tuesday, December 20, 2016 , the Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Directors unanimously approved Watershed Council Partnership Support Grants totaling $95,000. These grants will be distributed to nine watershed councils within the District boundaries.
Grant support provided by the District to the watershed councils is designated as unrestricted funds. This allows councils to cover operational and administrative costs essential for day-to-day operations. Councils are essential in helping the District realize it’s conservation goals within local watersheds. They achieve this in a variety of ways.
Local watershed councils are highly effective in planning, developing, and implementing projects to maintain and restore streamside areas. They help to improve water quality, remove invasive weeds, and preserve fish and wildlife habitat in their communities. They have a powerful volunteer base to get on-the-ground work done!
Their education programs inform people about watershed processes and functions. Our local watershed councils advance District goals and values and make a significant positive impact on the local environment, economy, and community,
2016-17 Partnership Support Grants have been awarded to the following watershed councils.
• Clackamas River Basin Council
• Greater Oregon City Watershed Council
• Johnson Creek Watershed Council
• Molalla River Watch
• North Clackamas Urban Watersheds Council
• Oswego Lake Watershed Council
• Pudding River Watershed Council
• Tryon Creek Watershed Council
• Tualatin River Watershed Council
The CSWCD is a great bridge for developing projects as well as for overhead. As a staff, we thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the strong working rapport we have with the District. – C. McGinnis, CRBC
Each of our Partnership Support Grant recipients has demonstrated their ability to plan and implement conservation activities that help conserve our precious natural resources. The District is pleased to partner with these organizations by participating in joint projects and by providing funding to support the councils and their work.
