Local Farmers Markets Receive a New Year Boost

Ten farmers markets in Clackamas County will receive a boost for their 2013 market season.  The Clackamas County Soil and Water Conservation District has awarded ten support grants for a total of  $27,500, funds that will stay in our county.  This grant program supports the local farmers as well as helping county residents gain easy access to fresh, healthy food produced locally.

Of the farmers markets receiving awards, seven were existing markets and three were start up markets from the 2012 market season.  Awards went to:

• Colton Farmers and Crafters Market
• Damascus Fresh and Local Market*
• Lake Oswego Farmers Market
• Milwaukie Sunday Farmers Market
• Oregon City Farmers Market
• Sunnyside Farmers Market*
• Trolley Trail Market* in the Oak Grove Neighborhood
• West Linn Farmers Market
• Wilsonville Farmers Market

The Conservation District supports farmers markets because they promote fresh, healthy food grown by Clackamas County farmers.  Markets provide local farmers access to new customers thus keeping them in business.  And, supporting local business boosts the local economy.
