Joe Matteo is the Zone 3 Board Director for the Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District. Matteo is a long-time Clackamas county resident. He currently lives in Beavercreek, Oregon where he manages a 40-acre filbert farm.
A Career Committed to Service
Matteo served his country in the United States Navy for 30 years. “I’m always interested in learning more and finding ways to contribute how I can. I want to be involved, to help.” His willingness to join in led to his joining the Hamlet of Beavercreek Board of Directors.
After the Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District moved to its permanent home in Beavercreek, Matteo began to attend monthly board meetings as a Hamlet representative. “As I began to understand just what the District does, I got very interested. My original belief about conservation is that you block everything so that you can’t use it, but it turns out that it’s really about using it in a way so that it is good for landowner and the community.”
Spreading the Conservation Message
Matteo realized his misunderstanding of the District’s mission might be held by others in his community. He regularly reported back to the Beavercreek Hamlet and shared the different programs and projects the District was undertaking around the County.
In summer 2024, Matteo began to consider running for the Zone 3 Board of Directors position made vacant by the passing of District Board Chair Jeff Becker. He ran, and was elected as a member of the Board of Directors in the 十一月 2024 election. Matteo was sworn in at the 一月份 2025 board meeting.
The District is excited to have Matteo’s strong voice and thoughtful consideration represented on the Board of Directors. Helping others understand the purpose of the District and the wonderful work it does for all our neighbors in Clackamas County is one of his main goals.
