Staying Above the Water: Controlling Mud and Manure on the Farm
Join us on Friday, January 5, 2024 for a free First Friday Workshop offered by Marion Soil and Water Conservation District. Registration is required for this workshop .
Suzi Cloutier, Conservation Specialist with Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District, will discuss track systems, Heavy Use Areas, pasture rotation and other ways to minimize mud associated with livestock. She will also address the poop problem and how to turn this detriment into a compost dream.
In 1998, Cloutier and her husband founded Zeb’s Wish, an equine rescue and sanctuary for elder, abandoned, and special needs horses, mules, and donkeys. She has deep ties in her community to people who keep livestock. Her work with Clackamas SWCD puts her in contact with many local farmers, horse owners, and land managers. Cloutier says, “We can all do the things that we are passionate about and still be great land stewards.”
