The Clackamas County Water Education Team (CCWET) provides water education for students in Clackamas County. This partnership of organizations have a shared interest in water and watershed-related education issues. These issues include water quality, water conservation, micro-watersheds, drinking water, salmon, stream and stream-side restoration, and stewardship.
Team members provide hands-on exploration of our local watersheds. They achieve this through in-school presentations, resources for teachers, and field trip opportunities.
By working together, our agencies are able to offer complementary programs to educators in our community. This minimizes duplication of services and makes the most of our limited staff resources.
How CCWET Serves Our Community
CCWET coordinates an annual Celebrating Water Event. This event serves over 500 students (4th-5th grade) at Clackamas Community College each spring, typically in April. Students get to explore hands-on exhibits and demonstrations and can talk with professionals in the water and conservation fields. Topics include water science, water management, and water conservation. Exhibits also cover the biological and ecological importance of water throughout the watershed for wildlife, agriculture, and recreation.
We also work together to organize a summer Teacher Workshop for 3rd-5th grade teachers in Clackamas County. Workshop participants gain access to curriculum and hands-on teaching materials for their classrooms.
CCWET also owns and maintains a Mobile Garden of native plants. This 16′ trailer is exhibited at various community events. It demonstrates the attractive landscape potential of native plants as well as planting techniques that promote watershed health.
