District Announces 2019 Scholarship Awards

Board Chair Jeff Becker congratulates our 2019 scholarship award winners Alexa Hayes and Ethan Gallant.

Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District is proud to announce 2019 scholarship recipients Alexa Hayes from Damascus and Ethan Gallant from Boring.

These awards of $3,000 each are available to Clackamas County high school graduates or students currently residing in Clackamas County who will be considered a sophomore or higher in fall 2018. Award recipients must be working towards an associate, bachelor, or graduate degree in the fields of agriculture (including horticulture), natural resource science, or a related discipline.

Award Recipients Reflect District’s Values

Alexa Hayes will be a sophomore this fall studying animal science at Oregon State University. Alexa is a graduate of Clackamas High School where she was a Future Farmers of America (FFA) member for all four years. She received a number of awards while in FFA and worked on a farm for 3 summers in exchange for the farm housing her pigs. She is currently on the OSU Dean’s list.

Her career goal is to work with agricultural producers as an advisor/agribusiness representative.

Ethan Gallant will be a junior this fall studying agricultural science at Oregon State University at the Eastern Oregon University campus. He was a 2017 graduate of Central Catholic High School and was active in 4-H club and high school sports. He is studying agriculture and business with the goal of making his family farm more efficient and productive.

His career goal is to farm in Clackamas County, eventually owning his own farm raising hay and beef cattle.

The Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Directors is pleased to honor these young scholars with scholarships as they work to protect natural resources and support agriculture for a sustainable future. This is the eighth year the District has offered scholarships to local students.
