Jessica Lindsey, currently a sophomore at Portland State University, is studying mechanical engineering with the goal of redesigning horse-drawn farm implements. Jessica has first-hand knowledge of horse-drawn equipment as she uses it in her horse-powered farm. Her goal is to improve safety and incorporate streamline design to make horse-drawn implements that support sustainable small farms in this country and are useful to farmers in third world countries.
Michelle Janik, currently a graduate student at Oregon State University, is studying veterinary medicine. Her goal is to be a farm animal veterinarian. This dream began at age twelve, when Michelle nursed back to health a pigeon with a broken wing and grew as she continued through the 4-H program, raising and caring for farm animals. Michelle plans to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from OSU in 2016.
